How often should you eat dessert when dieting?
Q. I want to lose weight, but I love sweet treats and tend to have them every day. Could I have, say, 90 calorie frozen yogurt every day or would that hurt my dieting? Sometimes I even have fruit.

A. Find something naturally sweet and jsut eat a small portion to satisfy the urge for desserts. But do enjoy yourself every once in a while. Good Luck

What is your biggest obstacle when dieting and trying to lose weight?
Q. I was just curious what everyone else struggles with when trying to diet. Mine is just hunger, I have a hearty appetite and loathe the feeling of being hungry so its hard to say no to tasty, greasy foods that are available when I'm dieting. Whats your obstacle? And have you overcome it or are you still battling?
Asked by Jessica B - Sun Jan 25 19:11:25 2009 - - 13 Answers - 0 Comments

A. For me, it's resisting foods that simply taste colourful in my mouth lol. i.e. chips... (are a big guilty pleasure for me) I think I only overcome that when I really choose to though... I usually give in when I feel like I haven't eaten them for a long while, and that's when I truly INDULGE (in every sense of the word). But overall, I think I've overcome it. A tip is to just stay away from the foods altogether, and have the willpower to resist walking over and buying/taking the specific food out of the cupboard.

A. A good multi is important to take everyday for everyone. Try to find one that does not have alot of extra ingredients (non-vitamin/mineral) and has an even look/texture throughout. I love the Nutralite vitamins. They have been around for 50 years and are one of the best. good luck!

A. If you are breastfeeding, you should not diet in order to provide yourself and the baby with enough nutrition. If you are not BF then you can diet right away, BUT you still need to eat as healthy as possible because you are essentially recoevering from surgery. Your body needs proper nutrition with LOTS of protein to help rebuild/repair muscle. You should wait for you DR to OK exercise, but you also know your own body. If you feel up to it you can (and should) begin walking. As a nurse, they train us to get people walking very soon after surgery. It prevents blood clots and gets your systems (esp: intestinal) going. Work up from there, but don't go crazy. Even when the outside is healed, it takes even longer for the muscle to completely… [cont.]

What percent of girls who start dieting at 13 end up with eating disorders?
Q. I know a girl who has been dieting since she was 13 and still is (she's probably around 15 now). What are the chances of her getting an eating disorder? I've heard that like 86% of girls who diet at that age end up with one, is that true? What statistics do you have/know? I really would like to warn her parents, especially since they see nothing wrong with her behavior. I'm not sure if she's throwing up in a bathroom or anything like that, but she definately is watching what she is eating, eating foods marked "low carb", keeping track of how many pounds she has lost, and exercises for the benefit of weight loss. Also looks like she could use a vitamin if you know what I mean.. Thanks to all who help.

A. walking is good cardio is a great way to lose weight. If you would like to lose more try adding some weight lifting in there. it will help you burn more calories in your cardio workout if you lift before hand. I don't mean become a bodybuilder. or anything like that. lower weights and high reps will get your heart rate up and provide you with a good foundation. try circuit training and it will help you by getting a cardio workout and Resistance training at the same time. as far as diet goes, try and eat 5 meals a day that are small. try and make them around 400 calories each if you can, and make sure you are eating healthy food, try drinking water instead of soda, it doesn't sound like much but it will help. eating about every 3 hours in… [cont.]

How do you get back on track with dieting?
Q. I've been dieting...well not really dieting but just eating healthy, i've been doing really well, no problems for about 5 months and then when the holidays hit I figured I might as well enjoy them and since then I haven't managed to get back to eating healthy. The best I've done is live a few weeks off of lean cuisines-not satisfying at all. So I just wondered if anyone has some helpful tips to getting their mindset to eating healthy again.

A. The first week of any diet is the hardest but once you stick to it it will get easier. You need to think of the reasons your doing this Diet and then decide either "well i can't really be bothered any more" or "oh my goodness now I remember why I started this 5 months ago I better get back on thrack and fast!" Hope it goes ok!

Is unintentional weight loss not actually due to dieting something to worry about?
Q. I am not trying to lose weight. I am not dieting. I don't notice anything different in my eating habits.
Asked by Zardoz - Sat Feb 2 19:02:03 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes. Unintentional weight loss can be from anything from a thyroid disorder (hyperthyroidism) to diabetes. My brother had lost 15 lbs in 3 months and was not on any diet. He had Hodgkin's Disease. He is cured and feeling healthing. Any unexplained weight loss needs to be presented to your doctor. He will run the appropriate blood work and other tests to rule out any disorders. Another cause of unintentional wt. loss is Depression.

A. Yes. I am in the same situation. I try to avoid any beers or mixes that contain extra carbs and sugars. I don't do juices either, because if you drink quite a bit that evening you will be consuming tons of sugars in that too. I am going with diet coke and bacardi limon, or diet coke and captain morgan. Also, to drink less and still have a good time, I am doing "every other" drink as a water or regular diet coke. This spaces it out and you still feel like you are drinking. I also make sure not to snack or go out and eat after that. one trick is- I keep a low fat granola bar in my purse so when I get hungry after going out- that's what I will eat because It's easiest! I know drinking slows metabolism- but the reson I am in cardio… [cont.]

A. Maybe you should try exercising? You need about 30-60minutes of cardio 3-5 days a week in order to lose some fat. It would also be best to strengh train also so you can have a better ability to do the cardio workouts (1-3 days a week) Maybe you should try to drink about 8 glasses of water and 8 hours of sleep. Also maybe you should at least try to keep track of what you eat, get a journal and write down exactly everything you eat. It helps.
