Q. I need to lose like 8kg (18lb) and i've tried cutting out chocolate and eating proper meals at the right times but it hasn't really worked!! Can anyone help me or give me a link to a GOOD diet that is free and actually works? I want it to be realistic if that makes sence!!
Asked by Arwen - Mon Feb 26 13:20:08 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Start counting your calories. You might be eating proper meals at the right times, but you still might be overeating. Start counting your calories (measuring out your serving sizes), and figure out what's going on. The good news is that with calorie counting, on especially good days, you will know whether you can work in a piece of chocolate or two and not feel guilty. A. Maybe it would help you if you didn't look at things as "diet foods". When you want to eat something (which you should do often, like every 2-3 hours), think to yourself - what benefit am I getting from this? So instead of thinking of things you CAN'T eat b/c you're trying to firm up, try thinking of what you CAN eat to help you. What you do eat is much more important that what you don't eat. And the little things do add up. For example - try a small handful of nuts, but remember to get them without salt. No need for that extra sodium. And drink TONS of water. I know it sounds very cliche, but once you get into a habit of really staying hydrated, you realize how much better you feel. Oh, and fresh, raw veggies are great. Just… [cont.]

What percentage of girls who start dieting at 13 get eating disorders?
Q. I know a girl who has been dieting since she was 13 and still is (she's probably around 15 now). What are the chances of her getting an eating disorder? I've heard that like 86% of girls who diet at that age end up with one, is that true? What statistics do you have/know? I really would like to warn her parents, especially since they see nothing wrong with her behavior. I'm not sure if she's throwing up in a bathroom or anything like that, but she definately is watching what she is eating, eating foods marked "low carb", keeping track of how many pounds she has lost, and exercises for the benefit of weight loss. Also looks like she could use a vitamin if you know what I mean.. Thanks to all who help.

A. Hi Jessica, Have you ever wondered how a celebrity can keep such a nice and tight body? Do you think they are just born that way and they are just a special person to look that good? Part of it is airbrushing in pictures and different camera angles on television, but a lot of it has to do with the way they diet. A. Your biggest problem without a doubt is that you're completely overtraining! By working out 2-3 hrs/day about 5 days a week, you're body is screaming for precious recovery time and has most likely severely plateaued. Your body absolutely needs quality time to recover from intense workouts and without this, it will simply start shutting down. I highly recommend cutting back on your training and focusing on only 1 hour of intense training per day for a maximum of 4 days a week. Its great to break up your 1 hour training routine into 30 minutes of high intensity weight training and finishing off with 30 minutes of high intensity cardio training. Push each weight training set to positive failure and really work your muscles. Once your weight… [cont.]

A. i say every week... every month is too long cuz then u wont get to see if what ur doing is really working (for ex.) and every day is too little cuz if there are no results u might get discouraged... losing weight takes time so definitely weighing urselves every week is perfect.. oh and when u do weigh urself do it in the morning...thatll give u ur accurate weight.. good luck :)

A. It's not so much the alcohol as it is the mixers. Sweet and sour mix, fruit juices, and things like that are FULL of sugar! Try getting used to drinks like martini's and other drinks that are centered around the alcohol itself, not the mixer. Something else you can do is start making them old school, like how they used to be made before premade mixes were available in stores. Here's a website that has a lot of really good recipes.

What can we do individually to change societies unhealthy views on dieting?
Q. Do you think that a hundred years from now these extreme dieting pursuits will be viewed in much the same way as the Elizabethan beauty ideals of receding the woman's hairline, Victorian cinching in the waist, so internal organs are damaged or do not function, or the footbinding. These are all beauty standards that endanger the health and functioning of women. Overeating is also a problem but that was not the question.
Asked by Deirdre O - Mon May 5 18:01:43 2008 - - 15 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It's mixed up with so many F@cked up things. There is the insidious beauty industry and the mythology associated with selling women and girls an unhealthy but lucrative body image. There is the corruption and control of food and the feeding of the population staple poisons such as trans fats, sugar and white flour. I think we can impact in our own environments by choosing healthy unprocessed foods ( as much as we can afford - yes they are expensive). We can raise awareness of different concepts of consumerism in relation to food and beauty. We can also nurture girls and boys to have a sense of themselves that is not reliant on a sick pop cultur image. - just a few thoughts - thanks good question.

Asked by lookinforexcitement - Thu May 31 15:54:21 2007 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The amount of weight you can lose with a colon cleanse depends on how much matter is left in your intestines. The average person has 5-20 pounds of matter, so you can lose a decent amount. For colon cleansing home remedies, the best thing would be going for juice fasting for 3- 5 days or eat a diet high in fiber and drink your recommended amount of water. For colon cleansing products, Cellular Research, Dr. Natura, Dr. Schulze, Enuvia, Health Plus, Nature's Secret and Oxy-Powder are quite among popular among the industry. is a blog that review colon cleanse product, colon cleanse home remedies and more.

A. Although you definitely should have a healthy balance of both what you eat is 80% of being healthy. I would say that eating right with a little exercise would be better than the other way around. If something should happen and you can't exercise anymore, you'll still be eating everything you did before and gain weight back because you can't workout. I hope this is a hypothetical question; you should be doing both. I hope you know that. Good Luck. *EDIT* I hope you do not listen to 'Contradiction'. A. Maybe you should try exercising? You need about 30-60minutes of cardio 3-5 days a week in order to lose some fat. It would also be best to strengh train also so you can have a better ability to do the cardio workouts (1-3 days a week) Maybe you should try to drink about 8 glasses of water and 8 hours of sleep. Also maybe you should at least try to keep track of what you eat, get a journal and write down exactly everything you eat. It helps.

A. It is a sad fact, but you cannot target specific areas for weight loss/ storage of adipose tissue; that is determined by your somatotype or body type. If you do a slimming or reduction diet, then you will lose fat and your weight might slip out of the normal healthy region that you are presently in: 50kg and 1.55m gives a BMI of 50kg /(1.55m x 1.55m) = 50kg/2.4025 sqm = 20.8kg/sqm. Normal weight = 18.5-24.9kg/sqm Overweight = 25-29.9kg/sqm Obesity = BMI of 30kg/sqm or greater You are right -- it's not "horrible", but you say you are looking to lose a LOT of weight -- why? I can only guess that it is your tummy and hips that makes you want to lose weight. You are right, diet has by far the biggest effect on weight control -- far… [cont.]
